The Augustana Vikings had a very strong showing at the 2nd ACAC grand prix of the season. The race was hosted at Red deer college on a course consisting of a 2km loop that was repeated 3 times for the women and 4 times for the men. Along with it being early in the season, another challenge was the heat, the temperature swelled to 22 degrees by the men’s race. Despite the heat all Augustana runners still ran well. Nathanael Tabert lead the way for the men with a strong 30:35 for the 8km course. Ben Osorio came next at 32:14. Dawson Fenrich a Camrose native ran in his first ACAC race. Fenrich and Braeden Kelly both ran well posting times of 34:17 and 34:40 respectively. Finally Timothy Shapka rounded out the pack with a time of 37:09. Strong performances all around, but with lots of room to improve.
The route was a bit more technical which presented some challenges to runners. Although the women performed really well in this race, showing consistent technique and form throughout. Catherine Alcorn performed really well, and finished with a time of 29:22, following this lead Serena Isley who is a first time ACAC runner finished with a time of 32:24. Next Linda Raduner and Mia Spreen ran a quick pace of 33:14 and 33:54. Finally Haley Kwan and Josie Middleton finished the race off strong with times of 34:29 and 34:31.
The next ACAC race is taking place September 21st in Grande Prairie.
